Lessons learnt while fishing

Learnt a good one yesterday while fishing off the spoil bank. Hooked up real good and after a half hour I had a 10 ft saw fish at the edge of the water. As I was on my own I could only think of 1 way to get it up far enough to pull the hook out. Wrapped the 80lb feeder around my hand and started to pull to find out this beast wasn't done yet. 80 lb line and flesh and something gotta give . It wasn't the line . Lesson 1 don't wrap line around your hand , lesson 2 , if you do make sure the fish doesn't have any fight left in it

Ouch! The other idea is wrap
Ouch! The other idea is wrap in a way that you can drop it easily like marlin deckies do. It's like an open wrap as opposed to wrapping it onto itself.

Good many years ago, was in
Good many years ago, was in the radio room of a south coast sea rescue group , got a call from someone with an emergency. They caught a fish, and as it wasn't really big one bloke wrapped the braid around his forearm to hoist it into the boat. As he heaved it up, another fish or shark grabbed the fish and pulled it back, resulting in a serious wound around the arm. An ambulance collected him from the ramp, I remember lots of blood, never got to hear if he healed well, hopefully he did.
