Long day
Was a long day in shit conditions, but all turned out ok.
The bloke hadn't logged on and didn't turn his Vhf radio on, if he had of done this it would have saved hundreds of litres of fuel, the cost of an aircraft, many dozens of phone calls and hours of volunteers time that could have been spent doing other things.

Good result in the
Good result in the end thanks to the volunteers who put their safety on the line yet again... and the positive is that it took your mind off the weekend's footy results for a few hours.

Results
Good result yesterday and water off a ducks back for last weekends result.
Can't change the way some people think or act out on the water but can only hope the footy team pulls their socks up and starts producing some good scores and knocks off the opposition

Wishful thinking
Would be wishful thinking if he did but seeing as its not an offence to log in there isn't much the authorities can do other than slap him on the wrist with a wet woollies docket.
2 boats, one I was on covered around 80nm and the other approx 90nm, the cost of the aircraft, spotters wages, 2 crew for each boat, a search coordinator and a radio operator plus whatever water and local police hours that were taken up.
The whole thing started at 2030 the night before, I had to go down and put out radio calls, check out vehicles in the boat ramp carparks, find out info on who and where he was intending to go, notified police and the ball started rolling from then,'
On the water at 0700, luckily found him at 1015 with him being totally unawares of us looking for him and and then a 2 hour slog back in to the chop back home. They had to get a suitable plane up from Shark Bay, refuel it in Carnarvon, put a registered spotter on board then start searching, they came over us at approx 1025, gave us a call then back to Carnarvon to drop the spotter off then back to Shark Bay.
So all up, quite a few thousand dollars spent in an effort to prove that logging in and out can save heaps of volunteers time and the govt lots of dollars
