Lobster vs crayfish

 Having a debate at home and need to know if there is a difference between crayfish and lobsters, hope not.....

The name change came about in the early 70s when they started exporting crays to America and to avoid confusion with their crawfish [a freshwater lobster] they thought up the name of rock lobster so they could get top dollar for them

going to the crayfish processing factory in geraldton 30yrs ago and was told that no one wanted to buy crayfish

overseas so they renamed them rock lobster and the export market began.so they are the same thing here.

Yup - as others have said. Rock Lobster is the correct way to refer to our 'crayfish'. I think we just call them Crays because it's easier to say, and nobody want's to be constantly reminded of the B-52s.
