Logue Brook Dam

I'm planning on taking the family up to Louge Brook Dam for a night or two camping and fishing.

I have never fished in fresh water so am looking for as much advise as i can get. I have read that there are trout and redfin in there?

So what sort of lures or bait, rigs etc. Water depth, troll, anchor, drift are there any structures in the dam?

I will take up the boat so hoefully this will increase my chances of getting something.

Thanks

We went there late last year, headed in, turned left and went over the wall, headed down and set up.camp on a flat bit along the water. Pretty hard to drive pegs in and the water may be up now anyhow. All I did was tied a tiny circle hook on, threw on a bit of earthworm (brought some from home) and just cast it out and left it, got a couple little rainbows. Next morn the easterly kicked up across the water and blew us apart abit lol. Ranger will come and say gday and take a few bucks off ya. Enjoy, nice spot. Should be some yobs.cuttin up in the mud down the end which is entertaining to watch

Was thinking about chucking camping gear in the boat and setting up away from the usual spots. Is that possible?

Last time i checked the dam was closed to boating due to low water . But you dont realy need a boat as its has plenty of access all the way around the dam.

First light and last light of the day will see trout rising all over . Right up onto the dam wall is a good spot to fish at these times. If the fish are not showing use spinning lures or plastics and let them sink to the bottom before staring your retreive. Later during the day fishing deep will get fish too.

With a bright moon the trout will hit lures at night too. They can come in close to shore and in very shallow water, keep your eyes on the water for tell tail signs of fish feeding and cruzing around. Then cast ahead of them as to not spook them .

Check out my post ( link below ) Here i have shown and listed the main lures and flies I use. The Celta type spinners are very good, you can work them at different depths and speeds + they cast a mile even if it is windy and they are cheep.

With minnow lures i like susspending types, you can pause thyem , give them little twitch's or wind them at a constant pace.

Cheers Grant .

Logue Brook

Last time I was there, it was open for boating, but no waterskiing.  I think you can give the Logue Brook/Lake Brockman Caravan park for details. There were plenty of trout rising on sunset and sunup last time from the kayak, but there no hookups on lures.  I have been keen to get down there with the dinghy since!

Good luck.  Camping is 7$ a night if the ranger comes through and there are places further on the north eastern end of the dam with sites 50-100 mts from the water a bit quiter (Sometimes!) and the toilet there is a flushing toilet, not a drop dunny which was a selling pt for the missus or again you could call the caravan park if you want full amenities.. but thats what the dam is for right? Still it is cold.

Dont forget to hit up the Harvey Bridge Winery (Home of the big Orange) HaVe Cheese just north of Wokalup and Barracas Winery 5 kms south of Donnybrook is awesome too for wines and olive oil.

If Logue Brook fails you can always do a day trip up to Harvey dam also, but no boating.  The park/bbq facilities are pretty good too.
