Long Point

Has anyone hit Long Point lately? It's been pretty windy with a large southerly component, so I'm wondering if anyones had any success at the north facing beach. I went there a few weeks ago and it was pretty weedy...

Just got back from Kalbarri, landed my first ever mulloway, undersize but a mulloway nonetheless. Some good tailor up there too, will post pics and a report soon.

Just read in local Rocko

Just read in local Rocko paper "10 ppl fined $135 each for illegal off road access"...best use the carpark and walk mate. Heaps of crew still 4x4 over to the south side, but it appears a crack down has been implemented by local rangers, police and DEC. I have not heard any reports about goo fish in this stretch, just Secret Harbs - Singoes a few nice talor and mullas lurking in holes...good luck

Was down there tonight

Mon, 2009-01-05 21:03

Stacks of people there tonight, guy next to me was on with size tailor and under size, I seem him put them in his bucket, but when I ask he said he was throwing them back when he left.

Not sure what to make of that !

We caught Herring and Yellow tail, there were alittle to many people for my liking

sounds a bit fishy

That annoys me when people keep undersize fish...as if he would put them back after they have died in his bucket...

If we can hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

I got some sized tailor

Tue, 2009-01-06 11:27

I got some sized tailor there the other night (33cm biggest). But the beach was lit up like an airport landing strip. People fishing within 5 meter's of each other. I walked a fair way up the beach and still couldnt get away from the horde's of people.

It was pretty weedy if you let the bait sink to much but if you cast and retreive at a moderate pace you seem to stay above the weed and the tailor love it.

Got into a few tonight, bait

Tue, 2009-01-06 22:28

Got into a few tonight, bait casting seem to do the trick, not many people there tonight either, tailor were just size, under size and over size by about 2cm, the run only lasted about 40mins then the bite droped off big time.

We kept three that were just over the mark, through back about 12 tailor all under size by 5cm at lest, over all I had a blast it's been a while, looking forward to having smoked tailor fillets now. My daugther caught one tailor and a Yellow tail on a plastic glow maggot. Cool

Even had a elderly man come up and use our fish guide to measure his tailor and that was just over he was a happy chap.

Nice work Tommy - some nice choppers there. I'm thinking of headed down myself, but may try the PK end of that stretch into the wind, but within stumbling distance of my home ;-)

Cheers,

Wed, 2009-01-07 13:52

I found the blue bait and white bait were getting smashed by trumpeter's and bread butter species, not many big hits like a tailor hit, mulies were the go, I found the larger mulies were better had a better strike rate than the smaller mulies

right on sunset and it was on for about 40 minutes, but speaking to others down there its a hit or miss most nights you just have to be there at the right time.

Had a blast down there

Wed, 2009-01-07 22:31

Had a blast down there tonight, caught and released 14 Tailor and kept 6 Tailor,

here's a pic to show the size different ( this one was under size by about 3cm ). We also got a yellow tail and a couple of Herring.

jazz my daughter also caught this strange fish I think its a long tom, any ideas guys

The catch, plus the Tailor that I smoked, tasted pretty good.

TT those tailor look

Thu, 2009-01-08 11:56

TT those tailor look mouthwatering. Very good haul mate. Looks like a long tom to me. Did you keep it? I think they have green bones...

A mate and I hit PK about 2km from you last night near the "free beach". We were fully clothed I can assure you (gang hooks and bare skin = ouch) only managed 6 undersize choppers all released stongly, and 6 herring (kept for offshore bait).

May have to have a sniff up Long Point tonight. U going down again?

Yes the smoked one's were from the first catch on Tuesday, tasted great too. I'll probley go on Sunday night since the beach will be packed over the weekend and I'm hoping to go down further south towards Singleton on Friday or Saturday evening. The Long Tom was released it swam way very slow at first then it took off, I've allways got gardies from down there never seen Long toms, my daughter was stoked about it.

P.S it's shopping night and the girls will be out, I have to watch the other's so I'll probley stay in, if not I want to head to tern Island.
