from my previous experience i'd stear clear of garmin.

ive had issues with mine and the tech support has been very sub standard.

having said that it was the gps side of a combo that failed, the sounder still worked, but support was average!!

In that price range the Furuno FCV 627 or the Raymarine Dragonfly would be the main options.

I used to have the FCV 620 which was the older model and it was a really good sounder. Someone once put a photo of one finding fish in 180 meters so it should be good to use for anything but super deep dropping.

I haven't used the dragonfly but it has chirp and downvision so is probably better at finding structure. Not sure how deep it can go though.

There was a review of it here: http://fishwrecked.com/forum/raymarine-dragonfly-review-updated-208

GPS sounder

Hi.

Check with Bias. They have some good deals at present.

I just bought a Garmin 7in echo 70s with transducer and G2 Aust\NZ card. Deliverd for $869.

But if you like all the fancy screens. Try the Dragonfly. But reliability on them and the Lowrance Group, Simrad etc. not the best.

I've had both. 2 x Lowrance made good sinkers. and a colour Raymarine rests in drawer in grandkids bedroom as a toy.

Furuno are\were the best sounders though. Proven over a lot of yrs. and Garmin best in the GPS.

Both have the better reliability on the market. Again over a lot of years  I have 7 Garmin at present, road and marine.

several near 20 yrs and still going (205 Plotter and their second fixed unit)..
