Loonies/Flatrock
Hey Guys,
Ive been reading a fair bit on Loonies / Flat rock on previous topics that have been posted and I've decided to go there tomorrow arvo for a bit of a look around and a fish. I've got Sherbs mud map that he posted and I have a fair idea where to go. Being our first time out there is there anything we need to look out for in terms of tracks ect and is flat rock the better option for the afternoon ? The tide is on the rise and the high will be at 10:00pm wind is forecast for 16knts S,SE - So it shouldnt be too bad down there for Tailor with a bit of shop in the water ...
Have most of you used the conventional beach rig there ? Ive had a look on the links on google maps and most of the grounds there looks a bit reefy .... Is the order of the day bait casting with sinker or popper / metal slices ?
Thanks Guys in advance - Ill let you know how we go ...
We will be planning another un up there soon. So maybe some fo you may want to tag along

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info Sherbs,
We went up today for a bit of a look around at Loonies as the boys couldnt leave early enough and had to be home early so we went up to do some recon and check out the spots.
We took the track as marked out on sherbs map and went to the right after the gate and after we passed the shacks we made it to this beach opening here picured above.
The bay that is at teh top of the picture is where I thought we had to go ... as there was a 4x4 school doing training on the beach entry, so we took the inland track which led us to a fork with two tracks leading to the beach we took the right one which led us down onto the beach into the bay at the top of the pic ...
There was an awesome bit of reef on which you can walk out on slightly or cast on the right of it into some deeper water the reef had formed some sort of basin with a nice gutter running along the front and it appeard that people had been camping on the beach as there is a huge opening in the dunes which offers heaps of protection...
We also decided to take a bit of a look about 500m - 1km up towards the top bend of the bay which lead to another big clearing in the dunes - another awesome spot for camping this had no reef and was perfectly clear of rock and weed - with it being not too far away from the previous spot and there also being good gutters present these are two excellent options which are not too far apart from each other
I was pretty dissapointed with the rubbish that had been left around by people previously ...its pretty dissapointing really to think that some people still dont care about our beautifull beaches...
Anyway - looks like ive found my next spot which we will be hitting up over night so ill keep you all posted on here ... Sherbs thanks again for the directions ... i think these are the right spots ... if not i found some others that are mint !!!

G'day Mossie Those clearings
G'day Mossie
Those clearings that you're talking about look great to camp in but in reality they create an absolute sand storm when the wind blows. Learnt that lesson after the third time camping in similar areas that you describe. Just a heads up as I've spent many years 4wding, fishing and surfing that stretch of coast. you're definately in the right area for some good tailor, mulloway and even the odd pinkie.
Cheers Mick

Ticks
Don't camp too far from the beach or you will get roo ticks investigating your blood.
I have been fishing / camping that area for the last 15 years.
I have seen them crawling over the groung to get to me , I must smell good to Roo ticks.

Hi Guys have been visiting this site for a few months now and love it.
I was wondering if anyone has the map or can give me directions on how to get to loonies/Flatrock?. This place sounds like a good spot to get some action.
Am new to WA and new to fishing in the ocean never mind from the surf.

OK No Probs
I live in Carramar, about 5 mins from you. No room for "fakes" up that way mate..LOL It's serious 4x4 stuff. Loonies is about 5kms from Flat Rock and pretty difficult country to navigate. All good spots though on the right day Keep in touch.

Yes not to far up the beach
Or you can go by track, cos sometimes the beach can be under water in one place
