Lost boat

Got a call this afternoon of a boat that had broken its mooring last night? and gone missing from Gnaraloo bay.

They have had southerly winds of around 25+ knots up there for the last couple of days and when they went to check they found a 7.2 metre boat missing. Not sure of the details on whether it has dragged the anchor or snapped it off but suspect it will be up towards Cape Farquar or thereabouts
Not a nice thing to wake up to.

Not good, hopefully it hasn't been too bashed up.

My biggest nightmare

Moored a 7.8 in the bay about 5 years ago. Didn't sleep a wink when the wind came up. Now only take up a 6.5 tops and take it out every day. Would rather the beach hassle compared to not having a boat in the morning. It would have been heart breaking as they came over the small ridge at the beach ramp to see it gone.

Hope they find it safe.

Scrub

Wed, 2014-03-26 20:33

We were up there one year and noticed the swell picking up and turning NW so pulled the three boats out.

Later that night it started screaming from the NW straight in to the bay. the 4 other boats on their moorings ended up in the scrub to the right of the ramp car park. The next morning it was a sight to watch all the crabs running along the tracks in front of the car because 10 metres of beach had disappeared.

A mate of ours laid the pro mooring down and we used to dive down and shackle on to one of the legs [with his permission] and remove it when we pulled out at the end of our stay. Some of the moorings that I've seen put down for small boats I wouldn't dream of letting my boat hang off in dead flat conditions though not saying this is the case today.

Nothing

Haven't heard a thing back from Gnaraloo or Coral Bay sea rescue group.

Suspect there isn't anything to bring back from the way it was blowing here at the time it went missing.
