I've always had
A spare in the boat just in case. . Peace of mind when thoughts are focused on fish... and everyone's lined up at the ramp behind you.

Thanks fellas, looked around
Thanks fellas, looked around the carpark and all the winches like mine are bolted or welded on. First time I've had one with a removable handle.

Easy to happen. I've done it once or twice.
Also found a few on the ramp and placed them to one side. Always keep a spare behind the utes
seat, not expensive, maybe 20 bucks. Permanently fit them? No, that means I would be stuck with one of three possible retrieve ratios. I use the 1-1 for a lot of my retrieve, only go down in ratio for the last bit.

Didn't find it sorry but as
Didn't find it sorry but as people have said we always keep a spare on the car and one wrapped up in a rag on the boat( Ali) and if in doubt there's always the wheel brace in the car that also fits our whinch so have a few back ups. As the first time we got into boating about 5 years ago we lost our handle first trip out so since then always had a few back ups now.

Shares in Jarrett winches
Wish I had shares in Jarrett, lost plenty over the years, have them stashed everywhere now. Also use the ugliest handle as only seem to lose the new flash ones.

Its a character building experiance
Nothing like being on the ramp about to start retrieving your boat and then you discover that the winch handle can't be located.
The howls from the impatient hoards who must get their boat retrieved in the next 2 minutes is all inspiring as you frantically search for the handle or a 10" cresent to use as a handle and start to winch your boat from the water.
With half the impatient mob offering absurd advice to you and the other half casting aspersions about your line of parentage that involve the US seventh fleets visit to Fremantle some time back it all makes for character building stuff and practice in showing calmness in front of your fellow man.
