Lowrance Structure Scan

Hi all, Iv got a HDS Gen 2 T 9 and a 7 networked together with a structure scan unit attached but having trouble see anything on the screen with the down or side scan, normal sonar works fine

I'v played with the contrast and toggled between the 455 and 800 Khz. I had it for 6 months now and keep playing with it with no joy.

In shallow water you can kind of see some think on the screen but in 20m and above nothing and we are fishing in 60m up to 100m some times.

Any suggestion or help would be great

It will depend on where your structure scan transducer is but you do need to be going pretty slow, best pictures are at around 3 or 4 knots for my setup.

hey bud. I got the LSS2 transducer on my boat for my structurescan than runs on both my NSS12 and HDS10 network. Pretty much anything over 30 meters i just shut it down and run with the traditional sonar. in the shallows its amazing thou.. i think i have got some screenshots here somewhere of mine if ya wanted to compare.

Sidescan not working

Mon, 2016-04-18 13:38

Just installed one on saturday and only seem to get downscan, it just looks like a different pallette sonar. Sidescan just comes up blank? There is no beam like line as on the videos.

Is something wrong?

Is there a setting or something Im missing?

When ya running the structrescan page, i think its on the #6 "quick key (if still running the HDS12 gen2)  you can open up some more options there and tell it to either run downscan only. Left & right,  left only or right only.

I just got a HDS7 Gen 2 to go alongside my Furuno 627 as an upgrade to the previous unit I had for running as a dedicated GPS.

I have bought a second bracket and will put the HDS7 transducer on my dinghy as well but would there be much benefit in forking out for a structure scan for the HDS7 for the boat for fishing inshore?

Sell it to me folks

I will not sell it to you but

I will not sell it to you but here is my experience with it and a few thoughts.

Structure scan can show incedible detail and is very handy when you are searching for new ground or ground that you know is there somewhere but just cant quite run over the top of it to find it with traditional sonar. The only draw back is that you do need to be going very slow to get the best detail in your image, unfortunately I cannot add images to a thread as I have a few pretty good ones of different stuff. ( you can scan 100m each side of the boat)

Running structure scan along side a sand bar always puts a smile on my face as you can see the scars in the sand where all manner of boats have obviously either run into it, run aground or simply plowed on through.

Downscan is also pretty incredible and is also very handy, especially when you get a sonar image that you can not quite get your head around you can switch to down scan and get a different perspective of what you are looking at and can give you another level of interpretation and more often than not get a better idea of what you are looking at.

It also shows fish very well, I had snapper under the boat one day and you could see the hump on the head, pec fins dorsal fins, it was so clear it looked like a photo of sorts, my mate accused me of editing a photo onto my screen somehow, unfortunately I didnt manage to get a screen shot or a photo so it never actaully happened!

I have also just got the 3D but am yet to install it so looking forward to having a play with that in the near future.
