Lucky Bay over Easter, Monday morning Mackerel

Me and my mate Manny decided to go upto Lucky Bay over easter to try and chase land based mackerel and tuna, well when we got there we had a howling southerly with an occasional westerly thrown in for good measure, not ideal ballooning conditions at all. Sitting around drinking beer and watching fish smashing bait less than a hundred and fifty metres off shore while our balloons that were tied to the truck were trying to go the opposite way was soul destroying. Luckily for us late Sunday a couple of friendly blokes rocked up to tell us that South Easterlies were forecast for the Monday morning. Woke up on the Monday with the fore cast wind being right in the SE where the lads said so put the balloons out, within a half hour had my first balloon caught mack on the rocks, rebaited, put the balloons out again and a short while later picked up another, awesome feeling! My mates bait got smashed a few minutes later with lots of jumps and runs from his but wrapped him around a reef and bust him off, bloody unlucky!

Loved it, the Macks were just the icing on the cake, watching the tuna and mackerel bust out of the water with a whale breaching behind them, awesome!

Yes, it's a Prevail, 12 ft 15-24kg, not quite a LBG rod but it works. Got the 12-20kg 12ft spin as well, knocked over some decent sharks, bloody good value for money those rods!
