Before I approach Carnac I'll always stop a few hundred metres off and spend 10 - 15 minutes just watching the swell and subsequent breaking waves to get a good idea of just what conditions are prevailing.
This to me is one of those places where spending a short time watching the sea conditions is time well spent so you are less likely to get a sudden nasty surprise, having said that it does not always follow that you can find yourself suddenly being confronted by a large glassy wall of water approaching you that will required you to make a hastily manoeuvre to deeper water and you find that your heart rate has increased 3 fold.
As said above a couple of very lucky boys.
