Mackie Islands trip

Recently got the opportunity to go on a friends boat over to the Mackerel Islands.
Got hit with some pretty average conditions (most days >15knots) but the 27'er cat made it bearable ;)

Surprisingly landed no respectable mackerel or pelagics for that matter, but managed to get into a few decent bottom fish on the artificials.
I decided this trip I would not use any bait and stick to just plastics, lures and jigs and it proved the goods, hands down outfished those with bait...

Got some nice trout, cod and a chinaman fish that went 11.6kg on the scales (will upload that pic when I get it from my mates camera).
Also managed to pull up a Malibar? cod that went just over a metre and estimated 20kg on my 4000 sustain with a 12lb rod, took about half an hour to land.

Had an awesome time in such an amazing place, pity only had 4 days on the water. Caught thousands of little to mid-sized trevally (all sorts) and queenies on surface lures around the island on the days that blew up... could do that all day long. Will have to do it all again soon!

Here are a couple pics with more to come later.

Did well to extract that cod from the reef on the light gear - nice one.

Looking forward to the pic of this chinaman!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

dkonig82 I guess I was lucky he decided to play fair ;)

Haha Adam, yeah one of the guys on the boat was a fan on the charlies, I think theyre just a pain in the arse and not worth the fish fingers you get off them, but each to their own... kept destroying my plastics too
