I got myself some shark bait.

went to hillarys marina to gather some bait for the freezer. So tired of buying mullet for $7 a kilo at the bait shops.
got this bunch on saturday night.
and got another 8 last night.
picture doesnt do them justice, as the big one was close to 2 kg. 1.82kg on my fish scales at home.

3.5kg Mullet!
Saw one the above size caught on my last 'expedition' fishing. Was absolutely massive. Fish that size were just cruising up and down the beach, schools with some of the larger fish turning on the acrobatics a few metres from shore. Caught some smaller ones, but wind was no good for trying to flick out the right baits.
Impressive catch mate, well done.

ok we have established that you used a rod and line (bet it was great fun) now back to bait...Hmm what i have used down here at mandurah is flour with a little bit of sugar added to the doughy mix. don't ask me why i added the sugar i just did and it worked on the small school i targeted that had been hanging around the by-pass bridge

unweighted on 6lb flurocarbon leader. trick is gotta be subtle. light as possible. these mullet are so sensitive. gotta go into ninja mode. they even scatter when u cast you shadow upon them. no joke.

Mulies
Mullet will take small mulie chunks, prawn - in fact most baits that I throw at them. Light line, smallest possible swivel, size 10-12 hook. They do like the berley, but problem is that in metro waters so do the blowies.
With the mulies, I fillet them and cut the fillet into a dozen or more pieces.
