Sounds like all the floating weed out from the metro area is the only thing saving these mackies at the moment with the amount of people targetting them. We had a big mack free jumping chasing gardies 150m behind the ski on sunday while we were fishing for tailor so out went the richter plug landing within 2m of the fish severa; times but no luck. Trolled some rapalas for a couple mins but the weed was just too much so headed back to the reef to pop some tailor.

Ended up with 7 tailor ranging from 45cms up to 53cms caught all on richter plugs. The weed was so bad it clogged up the intake grate on the ski and was tangled around the prop so max speed was about 3knots. Had to jump in a couple times and stick my hand in there to get it out, was a nightmare. The bay holding most of the tailor was also fulll of weed so was pretty hard work, taking around 4hrs just to land the 7fish.
