Mandurah boaters and visitors to the area be aware

I went to the crab fest today and got a bit of a shock, VMR 611 Mandurah Water Rescue Group now require VHF users to use channel 77 to log on and log off.
They have a repeater station installed up on the Darling scarp some where and it is tuned to channel 77, this stops interference to Fremantle water rescue, Rockingham and Cockburn sea rescue this allows the local group to have very clear communications with boaters in their area of coverage.
27 meg users are to still use channels 91 or 88.

Standard procedure
Shouldnt be a shock, you can still contact any VMR on 16 and they will direct you to their working channel, whatever it may be.
Standard radio procedure.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Just a question
If it is simplex up in the hills will they still get such a real good coverage. I was sure the guy I asked at the crab fest said it was a repeater, it's possible I heard it wrong what with the band going full tilt etc.
