Submitted by looking4mulloway on Sat, 2006-01-21 14:32
Hey all forum users just to let you know the crabs are around in Mandurah, Plenty size lots smaller but easily pickyourself up a feed. I have been scooping late at night when the wind dies down but have heard reports of them early morning for scoopers aswell and boats are picking up there share also uo til lunch time being best.
nothing is more relaxing than walking the estuary at night, plus bringing home a feed helps.
I have emailed adam a picture to post as i am having difficulties posting pictures so hopefully you will see one soon
Good Luck!

Crabs
Yeh it was an awesome day, pretty good conditions and lots of crabs too boot. Started crabbing about 8.30 and finished around 1.. Crabs slowed down around lunch time, which meant we had to leave them for about 10-15 mins and put the nets in deeper water. But it was such a nice day out there it didn't matter, looks like its going to be the Sunday regular if its too blowy to go fishing.

Finaly home for a night or 2
Finaly home for a night or 2 and wind was perfect tonight. Went scooping again in mandurah and managed 33 crabs in just over an hour. Sorry left camera in perth so no pics. What i was most disapointed at was seeing a local who lives close to my crabbing spot in his dingy just off shore on a sand bank scooping when he came back on shore we could see he easily would have had 100+ crabs and i dont believe all where size. Never have i seen someone run off with there catch quicker than he did.

Theyre still there!
I can report that the dib dabs (crabs) are still there fella's and more bigger males as each week passes!.
I hope you got the number on the dingy to report him for overfishing and undersize looking for mulloway!
As an aside for what it's worth - there are also some prawns about if you don't mind draggin a prawn net.
Lads and I have been doing so the last few weeks once a week (full moon comming up 13th Feb is best time according to the local pro's).
We have to work hard for em (over near the cut) but can uaually rustle up a kilo or so in a few pulls.
Course we get about a tonne of blowies as well!
The blowies are so bad I was even thinkin of keepin them and setting up a 12 / 240 volt inverter on the gunnel of the boat and mount the missus kenwood chef blender / mincer to churn the blowiers into a continuous trail of fish berley while trolling lures offshore! he he he!
(The missus says over her dead body...but THAT could be arranged!). ;o)
We were thinkin of giving prawning another go Sat night 12th, if anyones headed down that way! (in front of the shop just south of the cut!).
If the forecast southwester comes in, it should be a offshore breeze there, so still calm enough to pull a prawn net!
I aint hard to spot - just look for the fat fella!
By all means come say G'day! Likely you'll see the flywest signs on the cruiser.
Ohh and for the mulloway people...spotted a beaut in the Yunderup canals last weekend...right up the north west dead end (past tatums shop)!.
Cheers!
