Matching a Stella 4k

Just ordered myself a new Stella 4000SW and looking for a rod to match it with, anyone have any suggestions.

Plan on  spooling it with 30LB braid and will be used as a lighter jigging and plastics rod for Perth, and a shallower water plastic combo for Exmouth

Am chasing a rod with a bit of bend and feel, nothing too stiff

2 rods im looking at so far are

Daiwa Catalina J57S Jig 3/4.

Daiwa Saltiga Coastal SG62S PE 2-3 or SG60S PE 3-4. I have a Saltiga coastal SG57S matched to a Stella 8k and is by far the best combo I've owned, couple pics below. PE 5 and locked drag....

Anyone have any other suggestions?? price isnt a factor.

Cheers

Bling on a rod is so over-rated!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

 I have a Maria Steady

I have a Maria Steady Jigging 150. Love this rod, by far the best rod I have used to jig with. You can use jigs anywhere from 80g - 200g. It has a very soft feel to it but can knock over large sambos no worries.

Maria Steady Jig JGS593

Thu, 2013-01-10 10:43

A very nice rod indeed, Very light in hand with a softer top section for working lighter demersal style jigs ie. 80-120g jigs. Its 5ft 9 and rated at PE3. Runs Full Fuji Sic guides and reel seat as expected. We can do that one at $499 for FW members.

Saltiga 62s is top shelf but top $. If budget an issue, Myself, timvb and Daz all run majorcraft Alexander 60/3, PE 1.5-3, great delicate rod, much cheaper option.

Have a look at the NS Blackhole Rods

Thu, 2013-01-10 13:07

Got myself one for the same setup.  S-66RR Spin 6'6" 2 PE 0.8-2.5 40-160g Got mine from Lloyd in Gero but pretty sure Campbells and Complete Angler Nedlands stock them.

Matched with a Stella 4 or 5, great feeling rod for fluttering a few jigs.

 Some other suggestions would

Some other suggestions would be to wait until the new Black Hole 150 cape cod special comes out, it's sure to be a winner. I'll be getting some blanks in and building one for myself and a mate to put Stella 5000s on. You could also go the 80g as it will be released then too.

The synit Kaha rods sound sensational. If I could get the blanks of these I would. You could go the ultra light 50 gram and it would be a weapon.

Lastly the Jigging Master three kings special UL. It's rated to 120g and will take PE3.

Azusa

Fri, 2013-01-11 20:01

I have my Stella 4000SW matched to an Azusa 4-8kg spin rod running 30lb braid. Very nice combo. A fair bit of flex at the top with heaps of grunt near the base. Casts like a dream and has handled some pretty big fish. Bit cheaper price tag too at around the mid-high $200's.

Stella 4000sw rod match

Mon, 2013-01-14 18:57

Hi all, fairly new to this site, have been trying to find some info on a suitable rod for my new stella 4000sw. I want to, if its possible, be able to use it for less than 50m deep jigging, a bit of reef work and trolling. Is there an all rounder type rod out there? Don't want anything longer than 7ft a short style jig rod was what I was thinking. Something around $200 - $500 but if needed would look at something a bit more!

Braxi, what type of fish do you target with your setup?

Any help is appreciated!

i was running a majorcraft

Mon, 2013-01-14 11:00

i was running a majorcraft alexander also to match my stella 4000... perfect little setup and that rod has plenty of balls...

Have moved onto a 62s saltiga/4000 combo now and must say other than price tags there ain't much difference tbh.

I have plenty of vids on youtube with both rods in action if you wanna have a look at them loaded up...
