Maylands

 Hi all,

I'm moving to Maylands this weekend... about 3 or 4 mins walk from the river (right next to east street jetty!) and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to stroll out for a fish after a hard days work!

As such, I'm looking for some pointers on how to deal with the area.  What can I expect?  Being so close to home, I obviously have the luxury of being able to spend some long hours, late into the evening/night... In the past I've only fished the river during the day.  Does the river turn on after sunset and, the big question.... is there much chance of a Mulla?

Thanks in advance!

I fished there in a small boat a while back and caught some bream near the maylands golf course at night. We were fishing in the shallows so you should be able to reach them from the land.

Not sure about mulloway up that far, maybe someone else knows better.

Caught bream there at night using unweighted prawns but not sure about your chances with the mulloway but just take an extra rod in case good luck

Always worth putting out a livie or big bait, never know what might have a go. Heard of the occasional mulloway from up around Guildford area, so you might be in with a (albeit small) chance

I have only fished there a handful of times catching a few Bream each time on rubber tails. Just get out and have a look. You will quickly work out where to fish. Some places have weed making it difficult to fish rubber tails but just go for a walk you will soon find some areas to work.
You will also see others out doing he same, If they look like they know what thy are doing ,have a chat . They night have some good tips for you.

Hiya I live in Maylands and it has some great fishing especially for bream. You will always find a lot of people around East Street jetty, there are a lot of bream around there but they're not quite size. I have a nice spot where I always catch a few without fail, decent size too. If you have a boat there's a boat ramp end on Peninsula road, turn right onto Clarkson, wash down area too and heaps of parking, with toilets etc.  I used to drag net here years ago for prawns but haven't done that recently but use to catch a load. See ya down the river some time.
