Not the incident in question, but when we first got our Ranger, the 'your lights are on' and 'you're still in gear' alarms sounded the same.
One day, after winding the boat up the trailer, after a long day on the pond, i got back in the car and realised it was still in reverse....and running, with the hand brake doing its job beyond expectations.
Worst thing is i did it again a few months later.
Thankfully that was with the old boat (~1t) not the big girl at 2.3t...
