Metro Beaches

Hit up one of my favourite metro beaches for a fish saturday morning. Landed a few small Tailor, Tarwhine and Flattie. Best "catch" of the day was this pic, snapped by the wife, really sums up why i go beach fishing.

Ha ha Tiny Shorts

Lol im not that Alby Mangles. Its funny tho, Albee Mangles is actually my dogs name, irony?

South it is, just south of Cables on the dog beach there. There were a few nice gutters, one just to my right in the pic above, and one straight out.

Some thoughtless prick decided to smash a bottle there, and shortly after that pic was taken, my pooch sliced his paw open, copped 8 stitches and a ton of hugs from the missus for his trouble. Funny tho, if you call him now he suddenly develops a huge over-acted limp, which is only cured by food...

Cables?

Where is that?
God I hate people who leave bottles, broken glass or needles on the beach. It is usually some little kid or someone's pet that cops it.

Cable Station

Mon, 2008-05-26 14:16

Its just south of Cottesloe. Just before the road splits off to follow the Cottesloe foreshore, where the new roundabout is. Apparently, and im no historian, there used to be an old Telegraph Station there, hence the name. Out further is where they have put the artificial reef of old tyres.

If you scroll a tiny bit further north, you can see the extra dark shape of the artificial reef that is known as "Outers" and is a popular surf spot in a big swell. Some nice structure along the beach north of here too.

Cable snags

Not really, use a spoon sinker helps greatly. Also try to avoid heading to far north, stay down south at the dog beach where the reef is further out and less tackle hungry. Has some great gutter there during winter, and i spend a fair few hours down there pooch doesnt mind either. Personally i have more problem with the kite surfers, and surfers, they seem to think fishermen have no place on the beach, or maybe its the mad rod-weilding dude in a rain coat flailing madly at there kites with a bait knife they take offence too....

Lol mad rod-weilding dude in a rain coat

Mon, 2008-05-26 14:44

Can't see why they would be upset at him flailing madly at them with this knife.
Felt like doing that myself a few times when fishing near Scarborough.

LMAO Albee (have a good mental picture) - jeez, you've got it hard (sincere) - kite surfers as well as surfers.

Yes, sigh, the water is there for ALL to share. Plenty of water there.

Yeah i know what you mean Col, to be honest they arent that much of a problem. Its nice to be able to enjoy beach fishing right in the heart of the city tho, and sometimes you even get a few. I'll probably have an evening fish there later in the week, on a still night. Whilst the moon is going, might be productive. I have caught a soapy there pushing 7kg only late last year.

I always remember Alby Mangles dog saving that fellow that got attacked by a wild pig, good dog that Sam.

I hope pooch heals up soon, even when i walk my dog in the evenings its annoying to see broken glass in places.
