Metro salmon

 gday,

I've been keeping an eye online for reports of salmon in the Cockburn sound or mewstones area.. but haven't seen too much.. anyone getting any out there? I've got visitors from overseas and I'd love to get their arms stretched on a few so we are hitting the water tomorrow..

last year hammered heaps of them in the 18m marks on the inside of garden island.. just kept an eye out for boil ups and birds working... is it the same this year so far??

cheers

I caught a couple in the middle of the sound shipping lane out from the Cockburn / Woody ramps yesterday, just saw the birds and dolphins working the school, so threw a lime green BJ jig at them and was on, Landed the first one and lost the next one at the net. Pretty crazy doing that by yourself. They moved off after that.

caught one off moore river the other day while ripping in my soft placcy to set up a new drift, no sign of a school. Water was 21 degrees surface temp but when i went for a dive later on it was bloody freezing at 14m.

Heaps out from woodies today.

Heaps out from woodies today. Got away from all the boats and found our own schools, the 4th school we come across we sat on for a while and kept multiplying in numbers as other schools rocked up and merged with each other. People dont seem to be looking for actual schools ive noticed, most boats happy to follow other boats and hammer a tiny amount of fish. I was finding untouched schools just a couple hundred metres from where 20 boats are aimlessly casting at the reef. The schools are more of a green colour than the dark colour of reef or weed

Amazing how the number of boats around the school grows once you hook up though.
Most dont look for the schools they look for the boats that know how to find them.

You have too much time on your hands atm. You must be sick of catching them by now

Funnily enought its not the boats spooking them, plenty of seals and sharks on them at the moment! Not sick of em yet, ive been getting out non-fishos so ive been more of a guide than anything, its been good getting some young fellas out on school holidays. Salmon numbers have been good, boated close to 50 over last 2 outings. Spending an extra 5 minutes "scouting" really pays off.

Oh and theres still a few macks about, come across them slashing a bait ball today :)
