Mindarie New Fishing Restrictions
Submitted by Neo on Fri, 2013-09-27 08:20
What's with the new fishing restrictions around the inside of Mindarie Marina. Lost 2 of my good Bream spots now because of them. Grrr.
Blocked off everything which had some structure to cast to. From the far west corner right round past the boat ramps and the boat all the way to the far east side.
Grumble

they dont want no smelly
they dont want no smelly fisherpeople messing up their pretty as a picture marina's. they dont trust you near their big boats, why would they. easier to just ban you
same thing is happening all around australia, metro adelaide recreational fishers have lost dozens and dozens of happy fishing spots due to access restrictions, particularly around the Port River, in fact you are very hard pressed to find places you are allowed now.
i compare it to new housing developments/planning...for example when they build new areas planning laws make them place in certain percentage for parks and recreation (grassed areas if you like) ,in the old days they didn't do it as much because the school ovals were considered for the same thing (kids or family's would go down to the local school and kick the footy around or fly the kite or whatever)..but now they close/sell off many of the old schools to developers in the older areas but they dont replace or set aside the oval for public land, as a result many of those older areas dont have much in the way of grassed areas or parks
same thing on the shores around australia, obviously more in the cities and towns. when governments give approval for these developments i think they should be MADE to provide access to australian singles and families to enjoy Australia's most popular sport or recreation.
these marine parks are a joke too, with similar eventual outcome, they dont mind telling us that its only 6% of SA waters that are marine parks, but they dont tell you that they affect around 80% of our accessible waters (including boating grounds), most waters are inaccessible being too remote and dangerous offshore waters. for the land based fisher it is even worse, obviously land based fishing is dictated by access which is restricted by cliffs, mangroves or other impassable terrain, then some is cut off due to being private property, indigenous owned land, land based national park restrictions or a number of other restrictions. if you look at the marine parks and the coast of SA it practically covers every bit of acessable or decent coast someone can (could) visit
perhaps pessimistically speaking or perhaps completely on the money, basically sooner or later practically all access will be restricted, all will have some commercial value so you will either be banned or you pay to have access, we already do in many places, we pay to enter indigenous land to get to the beach and also when entering national parks, in many cases now it costs more for a family or group of four to sleep on the dirt for a night in some remote location with no amenities at all or very little, than i can get a fancy motel room for in the city , and they throw in breakfast! sometimes a bottle of wine!

Greenies
I can guess what the greenies motto is "there is more than one way to skin a cat" and they are practicing just that.
What they can't get through national legislation they will get through state and shire councils regulations, get elected to the local council and away you go.
rant over

FYI the new restrictions were the decision of the marina manager. He is influenced by the business and boat owners. Write reasonable letters if you want to help do something about it. I would leave politics out of the letters though, if you care about impact more than venting personal opinions. I am upset about these ridiculous restrictions at Mindarie too, but lamenting the state of things is less likely to change things than showing there are people who are willing to put effort into finding a better solution.

Does that include the long
Does that include the long board walk where those monstrosities are been built? Shame if it is, its a good safe place to take the kids for some whiting, baby pinkies, blowies even. If you do feel strongly about it, I'd put it in writing (nicely of course), get some signatures included as well. You never know.
