Minn Kota or Motorguide bow mount 80lb

Guys,

After some first hand info on both motors. Looking to put an 80lb bow mount that must have anchor lock. 5.5mtr fibreglass centre console. Done all the google searches and the motor guide seems to be they way to go although have not used either so not sure on what is the better make. I have Simrad gear so neither will link up so will need a new unit also to link up and mount off the bow. Both seem to be about the same price and have no preference to brands.

I have used the cheaper watersnake on a foot peddle and remote and it works fine but really only putting one on for the anchor lock and to be able to navigate from spot to spot on the electric.

Cheers

Ive got the 12 volt Motorguide Xi5 GPS model on my 4.28 Seajay . The anchor lock is brilliant and far superior to the Kotas in that it varys the speed itself to get back on the spot instead of going fullboar like the Minn kota does when it 10 ft or more off the spot . Ive used it outside the sound and it performed great. Get the longest shaft possible which i believe is 60 inch. Mines 54 inch and sometimes comes out of the water in a bit of chop unless im seated up front.

As for the linking up with sounders and so forth i wouldnt bother and i haven't.  It comes with a wireless remote which is perfect . The motor can store tracks  and has a number of other functions which i dont use much but that Anchor lock is killer.

Fitted one last month.. very happy. CHS sold the ix5  80lb 24v for 2099 and it arrived in a week. Was on special. Couldnt find anyone in Perth that has them in stock. Also brought the wiring loom for 250.

Installed the backbone nmea to link to the lowrance and found it to be a bit clunky then expected. Looking back the hand remote and spot lock would have been sufficient as I reckon its not worth the extra 400.

Batterys and charger cost me 1200.

Caught a heap of snapper since the install and no more anchor or driving back to the spot for repeat drifts with the sea anchor! Magic.. Best addition to the boat ... 6m plate hull. Note that it doesnt work too well in big swells offshore but magic inshore. Lasts all day working flat out with 2 120ah agm S FROM GOODCHILDS
