Mixing it up near Rotto
Submitted by Fisheagle on Fri, 2014-09-19 20:28
Did a trip to one of my favourite spots near Rottnest Island and managed to get a mixed bag before the Bronzies became a menace.

Solo mission
If that's 2 snapper and a blackarse your probably better off removing that picture.
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

Well done
Looked like a great day out and the glass off would have been beautiful. Would love to chat about the solo mission and any advice you have.

Prefer not to solo
I prefer not to go out solo, but when my limited list of boaties pile up the excuses I have no option - the addiction, you know. I make sure I tell the missus exactly where I am going and then log on before departing. Extra vigilant when going out and whilst fishing. Also wear my PDF all the time. Check both radios and mobile before leaving. I have all my safety gear in a waterproof bag that can float within reach. Cut-out tied to my arm whilst the motor is running. Also avoid shallower areas and stick to deeper water. Wife also calls me every hour or so to check on me.

Yep, it can be done. But
Yep, it can be done. But would only recommend it to experienced boaties like yourself Eddie. As we've all seen recently the disasters that can occur when you aren't familiar with a lot of the aspects of boating. Grab bag is the way to go I reckon, as it should float if the boat goes down. Some sort of radio contact with someone is essential too. Another good report btw I'm hopefully getting closer to wetting the tub again soon.

Me too
Have only done solo on the river and still wore the pfd the whole time. Frustrating with deckies that aren't able to come when required. I would only try it if conditions suits and still follow the same safety procedures. Always radio in, wear the pfd and have the grab bag with water, goggles and epirb in it. Considering a carabiner clipped between the pfd and grab bag as well, just in case. So keen to get out, but won't take the risk.

I fish mainly solo but
I fish mainly solo but that's because I don't have any fiends
Buddharock, probably not a good idea to put a line between yourself and anything else that could lead to entanglement should you have a disaster.
