Morning bash at Burns Beach

This was the result of my morning assault at Burns Beach on Saturday just gone, a place that gave me grief in the form of lost gear and those bloody wirrah cods in my only other visit early last year. Had to get out of the house following surgery on the Wednesday...all the resulting discomfort from the trip was worth it.

.

Water was nice, green and fishy. Had the first tailor inside the first five minutes, unfortunately lost one that would've cleared 50 cm (dammit!) that gained its freedom after some impressive acrobats just before I pulled it onto the rock ledge. The herring were some of the bigger models i've seen going around. Helped to break a rather depressing streak of jack shit in emphatic fashion for about ten months (the last decent catch was three black bream inside Hillary's early last year) where it was just small bream, snook, gurnards and flounder...and a tiny flathead.

Oh, this may be my first post but I've been here before under another username (Smasha...the account died for some reason) but greetings to you all once again.

It was from about 6 and they were still biting when I left at 8.30. Just using mulie cubes. Had a crack for a bit with lures but nothing was interested. m

Not something I've ever done

Not something I've ever done really mostly as I just use them for bait except for the bigger ones, just tailor. All goes into an ice slurry though I am thinking of bleeding everything in future.

Cheers - I've never caught (nor fished for) a tailor on a paternoster have to say.  What size hook do you use on that?  I got a Herring on a 4/0 mulie rig the other day little fish big mouths!

Was a size 2 long shank...truth be told I wasn't chasing tailor, just went down for a 'hail mary' hoping for the best so to speak.

Cheers

It was on the beach....just look for a sandy patch amongst the reefs and cast into it. Don't need to cast too far either, they were hanging around in close.

Has anyone done any night

Mon, 2013-01-21 11:27

Has anyone done any night fishing at Burns Beach recently. Went out for a morning fish on Sunday and was`nt too bad. Had to fish where the sand patch was north of the groyne, to avoid snags. A few decent bites and a good run. Was`nt a ray. It must of been a shark or Mulla.

Any other better spots at Burns??

Cheers

Never fished there at night

Mon, 2013-01-21 16:25

Never fished there at night but am thinking about it. I was there on Sunday a little further from that area you were at getting mostly herring, dart and tarwhine whilst avoiding treading on some seriously big rays swimming past. Did get a little crowded around there. Got a big hit as well on a herring fillet but nothing eventuated.

Plenty of decent territory if your prepared to head further along the beach I reckon.

big fat herring

Mon, 2013-01-21 22:09

some nice fish there.i used to ride my pushbike from wanneroo to burns every weekend in the early eighties as a kid and we used to clean up on

nice big herring just to the north of the little rock groyne.and we never had ice slurries to put our fish in.it was in the bucket and then into the back pack for the

pedal home and the fish were allways good to eat.
