Morning of Jigging 13/09/2011
At 4:30am last Tuesday morning was picked up by Wade Stenhouse and headed north towards Moore River towing behind his tinny. I've been real keen to get out too as I've only been offshore 4 times ever (apart from last sunday) and been inshore 2 times and havent ever had much luck apart from Breaksea and 1 Harlequin.
Sun was up by the time we got there. We attempted a beach launch, wasn't that easy but after a short bog and a few tries we were all good and on our way. I figured when we got there maybe Wade COULDA let me know a while earlier that we were gonna get a bit wet, but smart me went in jeans and sneakers and got soaked, but Meh!, who cares, the water was nice as.
After setting the rods up we headed out towards one of his usual spot, the ride was a lil bumpy and the water had a bit of chop in it, but I've been on tinnys waaay more uncomfortable than Wade's. Can't say where we were so I won't get into too much detail on the scenery =P.
On the way out, there was alot of very promising whitewater breaking the reefs around us, though it was pretty temping, we just kept our eye on better prizes and kept going. When we got to the spot, depth was averaging 40m'ish. Wade showed me the sounder and the thing was lit up from top to bottom. We dumped in our light jigs and with very little work, we were on. We got nothing but Amberjacks and Sambos time and time again. They weren't huge, est 7-12kg, but was still fun as the action never stopped. Wade couldn't believe how many of these things we were pulling up, he says it isn't typical of this spot. Instead of moving, he insisted that there definately is better stuff at this spot. So we kept doubling back drift after drift and drop after drop, Sambos and Amberjacks non stop.
By around mid morning one of us, (memory a little fuzzed coz I was dead tired from not much sleep due to anxiety, so I can't remember who pulled first... but i think it was me =P) we jigged up our first Dhuie for the day, wasn't huge but a Dhu is a Dhu, I was so stoked as I've never seen or caught one before so then it went straight in the esky as our first keeper. Few more drops later between a few Sambos and Ambers, Wade brought up another Dhuie, average size and released. My turn came along where I pulled up a double header, an average size Dhuie and a Stonker Baldie, STRAIGHT in the esky for the Baldie and the Dhu was released safely, and that was my demersal bag done. Wade kept bringin us back over his drift and we kept on goin... after a few drops and releases of Sambos, Ambers and average Dhus, HE now got a double header, 2 Ambers! So we kept on goin and goin, lil while later, I pulled another Stonker of a baldie and I threw it over to Wade for the esky. Not long after, Wade got hooked up to something decent, it was really givin him some serious curry. After a really good hard battle, he really scored, a NICE big fatass Dhu weighing round 15kg mark. Man was he happy, PB's for both of us today, wasn't hard for me, but even wade got one and it was smiles all round.
We had our bag and we were just jiggin for playtime now. Wade thought we should video a jig, so he got out his cam and set it up and I started by goin for some big sambos. So now I started jiggin but wasn't that fast, my arms were like jello already and my outfit was really starting to weigh, I hooked up something serious and now I was tasting the curry. We both called it for Sambo Definately. After a decent fight... THARR SHE BLOWS, another fat and juicy Dhuie, little smaller than Wado's PB but not by much, est about 13kg. So yeah, another PB for me =).
We started playing with a few other spots with placcies while heading back but not much luck apart from wrasse and a decent cuttly that I esky'd. Went close to the reef and had a few casts with some plugs and nothing, then just before I had another cast, looked over Wade's shoulder and said "Oh Sh!t!" Wade turned around and followed suit with a "Oh Sh!t!" as well. There was a wave just about to break on us and we just gave it props real quick and got out. We headed back to shore happy, smiles all round and PB's under our belts.
Cheers for reading guys and props to Wade for getting us out there, I'd do this again any day of the week, so Wade, I'll say this is my official RSVP for anytime =D.
Some pics below, shoulda took more but busy fishin. Video is having some codec issues so will have to upload that later on. =))
Threw in 2 pictures of a day out behind Rotto with Jamos on 11/09/2011 at the very bottom as well saves me throwing up another thread.

Thanks guys, yeah it was definately a nice quality day out. I cannot think of a better way to spend any day of the week. It's the 2nd time I've ever caught anything decent offshore and both times within a few days. It's really made my week and I cant thank Jamos and Wade enough for it. Good new experiances are absolutely priceless.
I'm not much of a fish eater but I try all things once and the Dhu was absolutely amazing. 1 Fillet fed the whole fam ahaha.
Very much looking forward to the next trip out. =P

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Nice fish gys, It seems launching at Moore River tends to be a bit of a Grey area.
