Moving far north to exmouth and beyond. Help/advice
Submitted by Markie on Wed, 2017-10-25 10:29
So iv always wanted to move away from Perth to a fishing town up north. Would be bringing the 4wd/boat and the dog. Would probably have to give up bricklaying and look for another job type as there is probably not enough of that up there ?
Have any of you lads made the big shift? Where? Any reccomemdations on where/ better work opportunities or any jobs on offer etc? Have mining experience aswell but would be a last option to go back unless smaller stints. Cheers, Marko

I gave up fifo a few months ago and moved back up north to Karratha. DO a lot more driving but its much closer to my favourite fishing grounds.
Seems to be plenty of work around. No much in the building industry but maintenance always seems to be looking.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Broome is awesome
But if it were up to me I would be living in exmouth! Just sign up to seek and save exmouth as a preference, good luck

as Dodgy stated there is a fair bit of work available in Karratha but not in residential building. Mostly shut Downs on site etc. If you contact dfp recruitment they could give you a run down on what's generally available and what tickets they would recommend (Austin and Kempe engineering are looking for crew based around 4/4, 3/3 day rosters)
Only down side is there are no fish up here ;)

Do it
I sold my business last year retired and moved to Carnarvon , best thing I've ever done !. It's actually a really good place to live ( for me anyhow ) . Sure it's got its problems like any place you're going to live . On the upside the closest set of traffic lights are 475 k away! . It's windy as fuck most of the time , which is perfect for me as I'm a mad keen windsurfer and ive got a cat and a trimaran (one hull is fun , two is better and three is awesome!!! ) . When it's not windy there's more than enough fish to go round . If I can be assed Gnaraloo n Coral Bay are a shade over two hours away which is a comfy day trip . Exmouth is for hours away but there's even better fishing within an hours radius from home. Just the actual pace of life is better . You could fire a cannon down the main drag @ 4:30 on a weekday and not have to worry about hitting anything ! . It's not everyone's kettle of fish , but hey my wife n I are loving it to bits! .
My wife understands why I clean my rods n reels in the shower....
