mulloway

According to my almanac (and other people), today or monday should be good day to fish (at 10pm and midnight respectively).  Though mon doesnt look like a very high tide? I think a new moon is best for mulloway, but either side of a full moon is also good? Is a full moon worth trying, or is there some other species better to try? I'm hoping its a good time as I havent caught a mulloway (and would like to).

According to seabreeze it looks like 20+ knot southerly winds tonight which rules out most beaches. I'm guessing the north mole, the groynes, the marinas and Pt peron/woodman pt would be out of the wind, but I have no idea which are best for mulloway (if any). The other option would be to head north to lancelin (fish at night and dawn-early morning). My friend has a fixed camper up there which I could use, and it would probably be better fishing for other stuff as well (also heard sambos cruise around the jetty, and you can leave a live herring out and perhaps catch one).

The other option would be the river near the narrows.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where/when. If lancelin is a good option (either fri or mon), then there will be a spare spot (leave perth say 5-6ish and get back by 10 the next day). Sun night is also an option. Of course, no point doing this if there is better or just as good fishing closer to where I am (wembley).

You might

be better off finding a good spot in the river. Catch yourself some live bait and do an allnighter. Maybe do some bream fishing at the same time.

What would be a good area (and hoping it wont be too crowded) and what would I catch as live bait? I heard from someoen else bream are around claremont jetty at night, and to use really fresh prawns in the shallows (but wont really be there for a couple of weeks). No idea where to get fresh prawns either? Fishmonger? ;)

There are a few

areas around Claremont Jetty and the Mosman Park area that are good for Mulloway too. And the Caauseway of course. But it can tend to get crowded.
One of the best baits in the river is bony herring. You can catch them with your bream gear. If you catch any whiting they are also good baits.

Dropper rig with some small

Fri, 2008-04-18 16:22

Dropper rig with some small hooks and bloodworms for whiting? Not sure about bony herring, hear they are rare catches. Just put on strips on a ganged hook, with a running sinker and cast out into the current for mulloway, or more near the dropoff?

What would be my chances of catching something (anything?)

edit: what times for live bait, do I need to get there before sunset?

Not sure, but I have on in my fridge if you want to try it out :p. Though it seems there are a lot of 24h servos in rockingham/mandurah that have bait (cant find any in perth).

I know squid love gars and tailor eat them too.

if u go to the narrows, use

if u go to the narrows, use light spiining gear and get some small tailor. theyre great on a hook just pinching the skin on the back of the neck(not too far or you may kill it) and one hook pinching the skin near the tail. if you do it right, they stay alive for ages.
