Mulloway Run

Went for a flick in the Swan off a mates boat at night. Caught some tailor, decided to put a livey down on a pair of snelled hooks (can't remember size #) on about 70cms of ~ 50lb leader, followed by a medium swivel and a ~80ml long snapper sinker (only sinker I really had , unprepared).

Got a run about 20 - 30 mins later, which took a bit of line and the head from my chunky chopper. The head was ripped off clean, and we had no more luck that way for the night. I'm trying to work out how I could improve my setup to further my chances. Cheers.

Make sure the hook points are well exposed, but sometimes shit happens.

I'm definitely no expert but maybe let them run for longer than you think to allow them to properly eat the bait.

Try

well exposed hooks and dead baits. Mullas have a tendency to play around with live baits.

Also try rigging the fish 'backwards' on your snells as Mullas (and Pinkys) take their prey head first.
