Mulloway spawn size
Submitted by Rig on Sun, 2011-10-30 22:04
Hey guys
I was just reading an article in modern fishing magazine that stated mulloway don't spawn until they are around 700mm long, so with our minimum size limit being 500mm any fish this size haven't spawned according to that info.
Anyone involved in the mulloway project fisheries and tafe(I think) are/were running and can shed any light to whether this is true or not

This south australian study states maturity is around 810-850 mm in South Australia compared to around 900 in WA.
Isnt the maturity/legal size also out of wack for tailor?

eastern states
The article I read was for eastern states mulloway where the size limit is 450mm and they apparently spawn there at 700mm.
Up until now I thought size limits were in place son fish could spawn at least once before they could be legally captured

Not really. Spawing size
Not really.
Spawing size influences size limits, but it doesn't determine it. Fisheries have in the past considered increasing the bag limit so more fish spawn before they're kept. I think that goes back to some work Adam was doing? Something about Spangled Emps?
