Hi guys I know mulloway are the dream fish for most swan and canning river fishing and to catch one it is all about persistence and luckily I have that but I have never targeted them and figured I might be able to get some help on here. So what is the best rig such as hooks and lb leader, what is the best bait dead or alive, what is the best tides, best time of day and best time of year and what are the best spots in the swan and canning rivers. Cheers.

Point walter jetty
Its been a few years since I targeted mulloway in the river and we caught most off of point walter jetty. (A couple under the narrows bridge but point walter is better). Get there early in the afternoon say 3 - 4pm and claim the right side of the jetty. Fish for chopper tailor and flounder with whitebait or blue sardines on the bottom with small ganged hooks (on a paternoster rig ie sinker on bottom and two ganged hooks 1m apart) casting out far for tailor and just about anywhere in front of the jetty for flounder (used to get big ones close in). There used to be a light on the right side of the jetty, When it gets dark baitcast whitebait out to the edge of the light we used to catch heaps of small choppers, they will be your live bait for mulloway have your big rod for mulloway already set up with 1m of minimum 60pb mono leader with a single sharp large hook up to a swivel, then a running sinker on min 60pb line then another swivel to your main line cast the livey out as far as you can in front of jetty and wait. We never got a run until at least 11/ 12pm and most action was around 1 - 2 in the morning so be prepared to put time in keep doing as above and you will catch a mulloway especially at this time of year good luck hope this helps
