Might be a silly question - but how do you know which ones are safe to eat and which are not ? And do you think they taste better ?

Certainly look a good size !

general rule, if they pink or brown underneath and have a skirt around the stem they are good.... however there are some around that are dead ringers to the edible ones however they smell like iodine when cooked. Chuck those ones out.

I was expecting to see ding

I was expecting to see ding snags or venison back straps.

We used the same general rule as kids in Greenbushes when collecting them. Also scratched the top, ok if colour stayed the same, ditch if it discoloured.

Never tried the scratching

Never tried the scratching technique. Sick of making hanging sausages. Just make cookers now.. I get given enough hangers so it’s not a worry anymore.

Loved going on Mussy outings when we were kids out Gingin way. Big day drive in the old car.

Were given a box and knife, and told by parents, not to come back until the box was full!

Soon worked out which ones to pick, then all the cleaning-arrrhh

Have a look around the grass area near Attadale Reserve.

I did a job there a few years ago and the owner handed me a plastic bag and knife and said "go for it there are heaps".

We did grab a few but im a bit sus on them not being an expert.
