My bad bloody luck!!

I had a long day at work yesterday, out of the house at 5am to fly to Pt Hedland and I got back to the airport by about 9pm.  Had a big headache and keen to get home so driving a tiny bit fast (not too bad) and I went through the intersection of Barrack St and Riverside Dr jsut in front of the Bell tower.  I am pretty certain that I got flashed as I went past by the fixed speed camera there.  The ligth was green but I went through doing about 80 or so and I am sure I saw a flash in the mirror.

Anyway kept driving and cursing now in a bad mood when 5 minutes later along the Stirling Highway I went past a mobile camera and I was still doing about 75-80kmh.  My fault, I know but still pretty bloody bad luck.  One question, on the mobile cameras they have that biug red light/box there -does that flash when you get busted or does it work on 'night vision' type technology?

they use infra-red.

And there is no such thing as bad luck regarding speeding - you are either speeding or you are not.

Quite often the set cameras don't actually have film in them I have been told by someone in the know.

Barrack & Riverside

Wed, 2009-07-08 16:23

That camera went in a couple of weeks back - ive been going into the city a twice a day for the last 3 weeks and it seems to go off at random - ive been coming through about 8 - 830pm and it goes off regularly when the lights are green on the Riverside stretch - wierd.
In regard to the Multinova they definately flash - i got done on Great Eastern Hwy the other night.

i think they may be trialling a combined red light speed camera. red light cameras take two photos about 1 second apart to guage speed i think??

if i hear that nong Grant Dorrington from the Safety Council bleat his rubbish for much longer i'll punch the radio out of the dash. Camera's don't deter speeding unless you know they are there. They are a revenue raising tool nothing more. And don't try and explain why you went through a camera - i ran the red light ( safely) at the intersection of Berwick Street and Canning Highway a few years ago taking my wife to RPH emergency - she was unconscious and choking with anaphalactic shock - sent in the discharge docs from the hospital - sorry said said Sgt Dicwit - not an emergency. Put more police out in marked cars - they ARE a visible deterrent.

night camers's (the ones

Fri, 2009-07-10 09:00

night camers's (the ones that flash red) will flash twice occasionally if you have a changing speed. camera's need 2 seconds to register a speed on your car and if its fluctuating then it can flash you twice as a computer error. you may still get a fine but you wont get two as whoever issues it will realise its at exactly the same time with the same car.

ive seen it happen to a friend when i was in his car and thats what the cops told him when he went to pay the fine he asked why it flashed twice and its basically the camera struggling to pick up the car speed and may mistake it for 2 cars.

alternatively you can challenge the fine if you feel like it. all speed camera;s are to be tested and calibrated if necessary every day, and i personally reckon a lot of them would get left for a couple of days at a time. if your lucky enough to appeal and its not been tested that particular day, then you dont pay the fine.

I can add a funny story

Fri, 2009-07-10 13:36

When I worked in Harvey a fussy friend told me about what happened to him.

He was driving back to Harvey along SW Hwy in Armadale when he spotted a Speed cam. He was under the limit and it flashed. Now he is fussy, so he turned around and looped back, driving at 50kmh and it flashed.

I told you he was fussy, he did a loop again at 40kmh and bingo.

Now pissed he went to the local and reported this false Nova. The answer "We are not checking speed, we are checking seat belts".

He wasnt wearing one!!!

Got to love it.
