My first double header

Went out on Port Bouvard Charters with the old man for our birthdays today ... man did I get sick (sea sick that is really really sea sick.. for over an hour) anyway after that was over (it waas a whole day charter) we went to some ground where the samson fish play.

Dropped the line down and bang got a bite, started to pull up and nothing, bang, another hit started to pull and again nothing, bang another hit started to pull and bloody hell was it heavy (I make solid timber dining tables now and I thought they were heavy). About half way up to the boat a guy 4 people left and a guy two people right of me got tangled and tangled my line as well.

The deckie sorted them out and I still had my fish, started winding again and then my dad had a fish that tangled in my line as well, so he managed to get his fish up, the deckie sorted him out and I started to pull again. By this time everyone had their fish up and I waas free and clear to hoist away.... god damn this is a heavy fish I thought, then someone further down pointed and said 'who's got the double header" and I was the only line in the water.... AWESOME.... I pulled up 2 samsons on one line the smaller one about 90cm, the other.... 1.2m.... damn thing broke my fish scale when I tried to weigh it.
I'll post pics as soon as I can... fishing in perth.. can't beat it.

There goes my chances of going onto someones boat now that people have seen me spew...lol Man I was so bloody sick, couldnt keep my eyes open at one stage. Maybe they should change the name to Fishwrecked Charters. took a good couple of hours to clean those bloody fish. Was an awesome day though.... dad and I ware already planning our next trip. Going to upgrade one of my rods for the purpose of charter fishing.

I figure I would have felt the smaller bites if I was using my own rod and line, it's a lot to get used to trying to manage an alvey on a broomstick when you've spent the past 2 hours chucking your guts up.

Though I must proudly say that I wasnt actually the first to chuck.. the young work experience deckie who was cutting up bait before we took off was chucking up in the toilets about 15 mins into the trip and spent the entire day asleep in the beds below deck...lol (though I was the first to chuck up on deck)

yeah those sambo spots were

Sun, 2009-09-20 12:58

yeah those sambo spots were pretty full on, only in about high 40's too, loaded big time, plenty of bust off's tangles etc, but all went pretty smooth, from memory i helped net that double header you got, you were pretty happy.

was hard fishing out there with that very strong northerly tide ripping thru and the fact that the swell was pretty big didnt help. i got only a couple of pics of one of mine i will throw up at a later time

The young las spewed pretty early on too. she was pretty crook too and slept on a deck chair most of the time. I dunno if she beat you on the spewing contest though.... lol

Ooo been out in similar conditions (we probably all have), it's not too crash though I agree.

Great catch with the double, would definately have given you some curry.

Sounds like a great day out apart from the sea sickness

Sun, 2009-09-20 18:06

A double header of sambos is a nice effort.
Maybe you should try the ginger tablets for your sea sickness.

First time I've been sea sick

Sun, 2009-09-20 19:09

Never been sea sick before that day.... certainly took me back to the days when I used to get drunk a lot. Yeah the girl was sick most of the day (unfortunately she was the second spewer...lol I tried to hold off for as long as I could) and slept on the chair for pretty much the whole trip till we were heading back in. I had tablets with me for nausea from the last time I had gastro a couple of months ago but they didnt help.
