my third Elite 5 died
I upgraded from an Elite 4 about three years ago, to an Elite 5 which was replaced twice on warranty, ending up with an Elite 5 CHIRP. Two years later and with only a few trips under its belt, it has given up the ghost, won't boot up, soft or hard reset doesn't work. The boot up screen flashes up for a couple of seconds and then nothing.
It has it's own wiring direct to the battery via a Blue Seas switch panel, in a tinny so it's exposed to the spray and splashes. I never had a problem with the little black and white Humminbird unit I had prior to updating - until the head unit fell off the top shelf on to concrete !
Very pissed off as I have some time off to go fishing the next couple of days and suddenly have no sounder The first Elite 5 let me down when I was in the NT at the start of billfish season, also when I had some time off to go fishing. That was sorted out under warranty but that it took two months die to a stocktake that led to my claim being lost for six weeks.
Just having a vent before I start thinking about what to replace it with. I'm not sure if there's any warranty left.

Sucks
That sucks Sam, most stuff seems to go pear shaped just when you need it.

Ive got a elite 5 chirp
with a uprgraded transducer and its been playing up from the start. Cant read the bottom properly but i think its because i also have it wired up in the dinghy and the plugs get exposed to the elements.

It's alive
This morning the bloody thing has booted up and let me do a hard reset ! Must have been the Southerly wind Will try for software update. I've hardly used it so I didn't have many marks saved on it. Did mark some of the Bunbury Artificial Reef modules the other day so I'll have to do that all over again.

Lowrance are bottom of the ladder shit..we only buy them because we are to broke or to tight or to stupid to go up the ladder. Last time my Lowrance shit itself i called up head office Sydney and with help from one of their experts he reprogramed it with me at the helm over the phone. When my tinnie Elite 5 chirp [ Bullshit ] dies which probably will be sooner rather than later I will never again buy one.

Can't get it to update
Can't get it to update software and it only stays on for about 4 minutes before shutting down. Will be on the phone to Navico tomorrow.

Third Time?
Must be like hitting your head on the same low hanging tree branch, the first time is an accident, the second time is that you forgot about the first time and the third time means it is utter stupidity for not learning from the experience of the first two.

It's been a warranty
It's been a warranty replacement each time. I wouldn't buy another one FFS.
