Mystery Lure
Submitted by Mojohand on Thu, 2012-11-22 08:17
Can anybody please help by identifying this lure? I received it free with a fishing magazine years ago and have no idea what it is. It is a fantastic little lure and has caught a wide range of fish until a little Barracuda smashed it during a holiday up north and now it won’t swim properly. I haven’t had any luck finding it in local tackle shops so I thought if someone could tell me the name/brand I might have more joy.

I reckon it is a Rapala
I reckon it is a Rapala Magnum Floater. The Floater has a plastic clear bib whereas the sinking ones have chrome metalli bib.
Try tuning the towing eyelet to see if it swims correctly.

nils
certainly doesnt look like a nilsmaster to me. It has rapala colouring, but alot of brands try ti imitate rapala. with the price of rapalas I wouldnt expect them to come free with a magazine

Thanks fellas. After seeing
Thanks fellas. After seeing your advice I did a quick search on the internet and it is the Rapala Floating Magnum SM. Now I just have to find somewhere that sells it. Obviously Rapala's are sold all over the place but as yet I haven't found this model. If anyone else see them I recommend picking a couple up as they really are a great little lure for trolling.
Will also try tuning the old one.

There's alot of rust on it
There's alot of rust on it too Mr Mojo - obviously been a few years between drinks and opening that tackle box - lol. Hang that one up on your shed wall and buy some nice little Rapala x-raps at your local tackle shop.

Its a Rapala , I remember
Its a Rapala , I remember mags giving them away several years ago. I collect old rapalas and have several the same. They are a deadly fish catcher. Probably no better lure in its day . I remember the first day one was ever cast off the Busselton Jetty. Bonito and Tuna appeared from no where to inhale it!

Haha, I'm positive I have
Haha, I'm positive I have this exact same lure, got it with a Fishing magazine up when I was working out of Kununurra. Caught a few little Barra's on it up there too. I always remember catching Pike on it in Cockburn Sound, it was a Pike slayer! I'm sure I have it in its box still, not sure where it is, I'm away at work ATM, I'll check with my ol boy, I have a funny feeling its in the lure collection on his boat.
