National social and economic survey of recreational fishers

www.agriculture.gov.au/abares/news/national-survey-shows-significant-benefits-of-rec-fishing

Some quality insights from the national social and economic survey of recreational fishing. Old Donny boy completely ignored these two vital legs of the stool in his research, with the 2 short paragraphs below summing up how valuable rec fishing is to the economy and our health an wellbeing. Maybe if Don ever bothered to put a rod in his hand, he may realise what a mistake he has made by cutting our ability to do what we love in half.

Recreational fishing was estimated to contribute over 100,000 jobs and over $11 billion per year (including direct and indirect contributions) to the Australian economy.

Recreational fishers were found to have, on average, higher levels of wellbeing than non-fishers, and those who fish more often have higher wellbeing. Recreational fishing appeared to support positive social connections, nature connection, relaxation and can help achieve recommended levels of physical activity.

Its massive for myself, nothing beats getting out on the water for some down time even if for a few hours.

Missing it atm due to motor issue, keen to get my 12 yr old daughter out also to take her mind of the pressures of school and the social media circle there drawn to.

Every trip has some cost involved one way or another.

If someone were to do a survey on how many fucks Don and Fisheries gave to genuine  unbias scientific research then the answer would be very few.

We all on here understand the many benefits of fishing. The NWO mob in charge are showing their colours.

I was reading on ABC yesterday that some NIMBY's are wanting spearfishing banned around Gracetown and similar places. They flicked a message to Punch drunk to get him on side.

Prepare for the next ban.

 From here:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-23/margaret-river-spearfishing-ban-debate-after-groper-shot-dead/102010234

Gracetown resident Laurie Keene is part of the Red Rockers swimming group, which has about 40 members who meet at 8am each day for a casual ocean swim.

He said the group had grown quite attached to a friendly blue groper that frequented Cowaramup Bay.

"We've been observing it for probably nearly a year and watching it get slightly bigger and certainly tamer," Mr Keene said.

"It wasn't the size of the one you see in the film Blueback, but it would have got there one day I guess!"

Mr Keene said his group made a grim discovery earlier this year.

"It was after one of our swims in January, and this blue groper that we had become quite attached to had washed up on the beach and had … a spear-hole in its head," he said.

"That really alarmed our group, and it was then that we decided we need to take some action."

I lost the waypoint for my pet Spaniards off Rotto. If someone could give me theirs, I will try to find my pets and diciplin them individually. Some will be diciplined in garlic butter and some in beer batter

Doesn't take much to piss people off at Windy, entitled is a word that comes to mind...

Big reds? What do you mean LJ?

I don't have an issue with areas having an exclusion zone for fishing and spearfishing if there are genuine reasons.

I wouldn't stand at gracetown pinging lures off the sand amongst the 100+ beach goers.

I'm sure most spearfishos would also not have an issue with going around the corner instead of heading off the sand there with their gun.
