nato reef
took a few boys out yesterday to find a feed and have some fun .. after hearing reports of tuna back out wide we headed to nato to see what was there. on the way i found a new bit of ground that provided a feed with with 2 pink snapper, a dhu and a nice red snapper. so with a few runs on the board we headed off again to find some thing faster :)
arriving in the nato area we were greeted by bait balls all over the place and within a few minutes i had the boat drifting with heaps of tuna swimming under it. unfortunatly all the light gear was left at home so we prosseded to drop jigs into the fray. it was great fun to drop a small jig just over the side and watch 5 tuna chase it down 10m before hooking one. i desided to hang my ass over the side at this point to get some underwater video of the tuna (just have no idea how to post it) well we did that for a little while then went off to find anouther demersal but they just wasnt playing the game so it was decided to head home early and be happy with the feed we had. i asked the boys to ran a few lures out the back for a while and Spooled didnt even get to set his lure properly before he was on to a solid litttle blue fin again .. we trolled a little while so we all got the chance to catch one on lures then motored home .
was a great day out and great company you lads are welcome back anyday

Great tuna mate. Spewing you forgot the light gear. Would be good to try trolling one of these little tunas around and see what else is out there. Makos, bigger tuna ?

didnt actually forget the light gear Seaquest .. just everyone else only had heavy gear and i didnt want to be getting in the way, got enough tangles as it was :)
was still great to jig the little buggers with the drags backed off a bit .. but yeah the 8lb bream gear would have been a laugh

certainly some tuna around
I've caught a couple of small bft recently and I hear a lot of reports they are around.
You just get the feeling there has gotta be some bigger fish (mackies / marlin) shadowing these schools of tuna.......
Nice red also, one of my personal favourite eating fish.
