ive got one
Ive got one mate, and had no probs with it. If you have cash to throw around for bigger screens..more pixels ect i say go for gold ! But at the end of the day..its the way you interpret what you see. Thats why im trying to book a course with a guy in perth..hopefully something he tells me clicks in my tiny brain and i will understand what i see better. Cheers

Got one
I've got one and have no trouble seeing fish fish down to 60fathoms[round 150 metres]and changes in the bottom, edges, lumps etc.
Son has had his one since they first came out and refuses to change to a better???one.Adam has seen son's sounder working and from what I've heard is impressed with it.
Its finding/knowing what the sounder is telling you is where people have trouble

Same
Have one aswell and have no probs finding fish outta my tinny...
But as Wade said if you've got the coin go for gold!
If i had a bigger boat and fishing 40+m of water everytime i went out i would prob invest in a 585 or 620

furuno pricing
FCV620: $1600 (5.6" screen)
FCV585: $2600 (8.4" screen)
give or take, depending on well you haggle/shop around etc. May not seem like a lot, but the difference in screen size is significant. But make sure you have somewhere to mount/house it.
I run a FCV620 - one of, if not the best fishing "investment" I have made.

As canarvonite said
I fish with Jeff (deepwater) quite often and his sounder has no problems picking up schools of fish, drop off's, everything you need to see. Might not have the same clarity as the furuno's, but unless you've got the cash to fork out, then I'm pretty sure it will do you fine. I just bought the 4600 off a mate, haven't installed it yet, but have seen it working for years on the sambo schools off Perth in 110m and know that you have no problem finding them if the unit is working properly. I fish on a lot of people's boats with all different types of units, if you've got the money to spend, then do it, otherwise $2000 can be spent on quite a lot of other fishing toys that can be enjoyed.

i got my fcv 585 from chivers marine bibra lake for 2000 with 600w transducer but if you are fishin 250s id recommend the 1kw transducer for around about a grand extra at the end of the day its up to u but great equipment u wont be disapointed
