Need help with choosing gear.

 Hi all

Sorry If have posted in the wrong section i am only new to this site.

I am lookingat purchasing a penn international trolling reel.

My first question is should I buy either a 50 Vsw or an 80 Vsw

My second question do I need a straight butt or a bent butt

Is a 80 over kill or will a 50 do the job

Should I get rollered or guide and what brand and models are good

My fishing will be mainly trolling for pelegics from Mahi Mahi to marlin. I also like to catch (and release) sharks. Tuna is also on the menu. I live in Perth however I am planning to do more fishing in abrohlis and exmouth.

My budget is about 800 for the reel and 800 for the rod.

What do you suggest?

Thanksfor the advice so far

Would an 80 require a chair or a harness or could you get away with out anything?

Pretty much, if you're using

Pretty much, if you're using an 80 and you aren't using a harness, or more so a chair, then it would seem you really don't need an 80. The 50 would be the absolute biggest you'd need to go for what you're describing, with the 30 being more fun and easier to handle. Straight butt for stand up and a bent butt for chair stuff. Pretty hard to do everything with one rod and reel, a 30 and a 50 is a good start I reckon.

 Thanks for your helpI have

 Thanks for your help

I have already got a 30 t and I have used my brothers TLD 50 but  there are some fish that we've had that have spooled the 30 and the 50 (I think this is because I fish from an anchored boat a lot tof the time) how ever when I have used my brothers combo I have not been using a harness and you get pretty tired after 3 hours how ever I don't know about this but I think an 80 would probably require a harness how ever because the fight would be shorter could you go with out ?

Ps : I do like the penn igfa series rods. But Idont trust Internet sites very much is there any shop in WA that sells them.
