Im actually a big fan of the Live Fibre Territory Barra sticks. fantastic rods, high grade cork. Really nice action. stiff, but soft enough to throw lighter lures around

Hi.I got a Live Fibre
Hi.
I got a Live Fibre "Classic 6" Baitcaster with a Daiwa SW 203 loaded with 30lb Braid.
Also a coupla Simano Tournaments. They have a Black Sheep 250 and 300 on them..
Carrying 50lb braid. Leaders to suit.
Never had a problem with any of them.
That little L\Fibre SW combo is favourite. Has boated quite a few big mamma's in Awoonga
Prossie Tinaroo and a couple in Monduran over the yrs.
Living in Yeppoon we sorta in the middle. Bloody Spanno's spooled me though. Twice.(with SW)
Take a coupla deep divers in Awoonga too, down the main channel.I use a downrigger.
They often sit sulking in 80ft of water.. I bounce anchor on them first.
If that don't work. Downrig lures over them.
Normally use a 150\250 Jig stick with Accurate 870 or Penn Torque 200 on it for that though.
Gets ém up in a hurry.
Those Loomis are Graphite. I've butchered a couple. The Wilsons are Hybrid. Glass\Graphite.
Much more suitable for knocking round tinnies and trees. Shimano's are Graph. too.
But take a few more knocks..
Loomis a bit overrated. I got a 6 ft 6 in Garage. Missus uses it.I don't like it much.
Personal choices. I like Daiwa too. Wouldn't have a Shimano in my boat. (in reels)
PS you should be out on there now. Moonlight and not too much wind. (2 25am.)

I fished for Barra pretty
I fished for Barra pretty much all my life in the NT. Live Fibre rods are good, I have a couple of them but my preference is G.Loomis. I run a couple different sized rods for different purposes (all Barra). A stronger rod for trolling deep divers and live baiting plus a lighter one for flicking minnows, soft plastics etc.
G.Loomis rods are really nice to use but you need to really look after them - they are fragile and will fracture easily if knocked around. The Live Fibre sticks are more robust in this regard

i have been considering a samurai reaction 442 (5'6" 1 piece 16-20lb fast action) matched to my shimano curado 200E7, i currently run 14lb line but would run 20lb for casting plastics, how do you intend to fish awoonga?, casting plastics, trolling, live baiting?

Thanks for the replies guys,
I plan on casting plastics and hard was thinking of a rod longer than 5.6ft more around the 6 - 6.3ftish I was thinking about using 20lb line, is there any advantage from using 30lb
cheers

Samurai reaction 451 (6'6" 2
Samurai reaction 451 (6'6" 2 piece 12-20lb very fast action), i would use 20lb due to the fact that my reel wouldn't really have the drag to fish 30lb to it's potential, really depends on the areas you will be fishing, heavy weedbeds and around heavy timber then 20lb may not be the best choice, if these are the types of areas you will be targeting then rod and reel choice would obviously be different.

heavy timber i would probably
heavy timber i would probably consider livefibre RLF29 PNG bass (6' 20kg baitcaster) with a Shimano Tranx TRX500PG with 50lb braid
this is just my opinion if i were to be looking for big impoundment barra around heavy timber

A good cheap but still
A good cheap but still quality option is the Penn Pin Point rods. I have the XXH 5 foot 6 version rated to 12 kilo and it's a great rod, made from an IM7 carbon blank. Has the guts to tackle impoundment Barra and good for 20 to 25 lb braid. Most little baitcasters will not handle enough drag to cope with 30lb braid but it is worth considering using for that little extra abrasion resistance in case a big one wraps you around a few sticks. I have 30lb on my Curado for that reason. There's a sizeable jump in line diameter with 20 and 30 lb braid.
If you are not expecting too much tight country go 20lb, it will help with line capacity and casting.
PS I have some Loomis blanks on me if you want a custom job. Won't be cheap though.

Yep, the Penn Pin Point
Yep, the Penn Pin Point Tournament rods are quite cheap, about $115 when I got mine a few years ago. It has caught heaps of big barra and is tough enough to handle a bit of rough treatment
