New boat and sounder shots
Well when we found out the missus was pregnant she said to me "if you want a boat you might want to do it now or could be a few years before you get the chance to" needless to say we were at the boat yard the next day placing an order on a tub I had kept my eyes on for the best part of a year but hadnt fully committed to the idea, a 5m side console being pushed along by a 115 Suzi. Huge thanks to the crew at Chivers Marine, especially Luke, cant thank those guys enough for the electronics fit-out. Working away on a gas plant with no mobile phones, Luke would call me after hours while juggling his family duties to discuss different options. Ended up going with a Simrad Evo2 NSS9 with Structure Scan 3D and Furuno 588 with a P66 ducer. When I picked the boat up, Luke had already set up both units with the ideal settings to suit my fishing. The structure scan absolutely blows my mind, its like looking at an underwater photo, it paid for itself on the first outing finding all sorts of bits peices while running in the motor.
I spent the first few trips in close chasing salmon while running in the motor.
Yestreday took the tub out for its first wide trip to see if we could get an arm stretching on some sambos. Found the fish, went to rig up then realised we forgot the jigs whoops. Luckily still had some plastics and the fish were hungry.
Cheers.

Sorry Wen im back at work now I'll jave to get a pic for you next time im home. I havent even looked at settings as i said Luke from Chivers set it all up and all i have to do is tweak the gain every now and then. I seem to recall site sponsor Oceanside setting up Furuno sounders for forum members not sure if they still do it but could be worth asking

Cheers Andy, very impressed
Cheers Andy, very impressed with it. When i was looking originally i didnt think furuno really had a place in shallow water fishing but after talking to hoookt about his 628 on his 4.5m tub i bit the bullet and went with the biggest unit i could fit next to the simrad. The only thing its missing is the screenshot function I'd love to share some of the pinkie schools in ~10m that ive come across!

Thanks everyone. Nah no
Thanks everyone. Nah no upgrade to 1kw, i dont fish any deeper than that 40m spot and im pretty happy with the readings with the p66.
Interested to know what showings other furuno users are getting, i thought i would be getting more blobs as fish but very happy to see defined arches even out at 40m, even the pinkie schools are showing up as arches aswell.
The 115 goes great on the back, super quiet and pushes us along at just under 40knts across the sound.
Jorn i did warn you about the stella haha! Whats the issue??

Hi Beau, My furuno 587 is
Hi Beau,
My furuno 587 is more blobs than arches. not sure if the 588 has some changes in its firmware or its your transducer. Have you tried changing your background colour to black? thats my preferred. I find seeing the ground much easier on a back surface, especially low lying coral which is pretty much all i fish these days.
