EPIRB!
The EPIRB battery can be replaced but with many its normaly half the cost of a new unit. As for 27 megs being fadded out i reckon thats good as the VHF has the coverage especially in a "May-day" emergency!
If they go to just VHF they'll definatly need to have some sort of control as its also a commercial frequency!

27 meg
I'm with Carnarvon Volunteer Sea Rescue and I've heard nothing about phasing out 27 meg radios
We monitor 88 on the 27 meg band plus 16/73 on VHF as well as 4125 on HF each day from either the main base or one of the home bases.50% of log ins are done via 27meg so I cannot see it being dropped any time soon

Spoke to three people at three different shops yesterday and also one of the distributors about it and they all said it is a false rumor that has been floating around for the last two years
