New FADS and stocking Wellington dam
Submitted by Versus on Thu, 2014-12-04 12:32
Just got the Recfishwest news email; those new FADS have been deployed, including a subsurface one, be interested to see how they go. There's also a "have your say" on what to stock at Wellington dam, after the recent Murray Cod/local ponds activity will be interesting to see what gets stocked! What's everyone gonna ask for?

If anything other than
If anything other than Australian Natives is stocked it will be a Big flop IMO. There is plenty of evidence of fish like Murray Cod, Golden Perch and Bass doing well in dams over east which also contain Redfin and Carp like Wellington does. If the right species are stocked WA could have a great little freshwater fishery happening, one only needs to look what has come out of that little pond in Canningvale recently to see the proof of what could be achieved.

Would be fantastic to see native Australian fish stocked in WA dams!

Will be interesting to see what can go into Welli Dam as it has a very high salinity rating. This is why its not used for drinking water and why it is sometimes opened and released from the bottom of the dam face.

The Salinity levels are to
The Salinity levels are to high for drinking but not to high for freshwater fish or marron. The dam already has Redfin, Carp and the odd Trout surviving in there.

It would be cool to see what
It would be cool to see what would happen if they put a 100mm layer of concrete in the bottom of some old banged up sea-containers, gas axe the ends out to form a metal tunnel structure, then sunk them along the coast
Maybe even gas axe a 600mm circular opening each side
