it just goes to clutter and what ever the last depth reading was just keeps flashing on the screen...even when we stop it doesnt work itself out unless i physically unplug the transducer and plug it back in.

Yeah was thinking that but if only drifting it should work unless really really badly placed?? Then flashing depth on screen with clutter, think it might be the unit primarily & not affecting the gps component

Make sure the transducer is

Make sure the transducer is perfectly flat and in-line with the bottom of the hull. Also don't have it too close to the motor because the stirred up water can cause trouble and screw the reading

other possibilties in

Sat, 2011-10-08 22:15

other possibilties in addition to above are electrical interference, such as transducer cable too close to or around charging or antennae cables. It should be shielded but I dont know anything about Garmins.

But these are subjects for the Marine Electrical gurus.

Even if your GPS head unit is pointing at the sounder, it can cause interference.
