new fish finder not working

hey
i bought a new fish finder gps combo (garmin 451s) and installed it yesterday but the transducer isnt working properly if i unplug it and plug it in it works for about 5 seconds till we start moving and it stuffs up. its mounted on the transom and was in the water at all times... any suggestions?

More info, what happens after 5 seconds? Are you getting a blank screen, clutter, losing power??

it just goes to clutter and
it just goes to clutter and what ever the last depth reading was just keeps flashing on the screen...even when we stop it doesnt work itself out unless i physically unplug the transducer and plug it back in.

yeh it does...its brand new
yeh it does...its brand new so i dont understand...it has to be a stuffed transducer because the gps side of it works perfectly fine.

Yeah was thinking that but if only drifting it should work unless really really badly placed?? Then flashing depth on screen with clutter, think it might be the unit primarily & not affecting the gps component

the transducer is mounted fine always in the water...if it was bad mounted it would still give readings...this does for a few seconds then just flashes the depth last recorded...funts cucked

Make sure the transducer is
Make sure the transducer is perfectly flat and in-line with the bottom of the hull. Also don't have it too close to the motor because the stirred up water can cause trouble and screw the reading

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

other possibilties in
other possibilties in addition to above are electrical interference, such as transducer cable too close to or around charging or antennae cables. It should be shielded but I dont know anything about Garmins.
But these are subjects for the Marine Electrical gurus.

Is your gps ariel near the unit??
That messes with things as well

Even if your GPS head unit is pointing at the sounder, it can cause interference.

try going into advanced
settings and set everything to manual set your range to the depth your in turn your gain to min and have a play with the noise reject and then see what happens
