Run malwarebytes if you think you have some sort of problem and download AVG free if you need internet security

What Hilly and Chris have put

Tue, 2014-10-14 14:02

What Hilly and Chris have put forward is pretty much spot on

I didnt post it publically because I was adding a lot of Hyperlinks in for Dale to make it easier

Chrome & Adblock will remove 95%+ your risk of contracting Malware and/or Trojans when browsing the internet

AVG Free is as the name suggests, free.

MalwareBytes is great for finding and removing Malware and Unwanted Programs, and the trial for 14 days is free and functional

Windows 8.1 will take some getting used to but don't worry, Windows 10 is out next year and the preview copy i'm testing has been extremely promising.
The start menu is back, it runs quickly, no more metro screen or side bars and it looks polished.

If you want it to operate

Tue, 2014-10-14 21:06

If you want it to operate like the "old" style windows i.e. xp, vista etc you can download a program called classic shell.

It doesn't modify your operating system just gives you the old style screen and menus.

Sounds like a setting on your touch pad is making the changes to you screen. Like swiping from the edge to the middle etc. You should be able to disable those additional settings to make it less responsive.

One thing I forgot to mention

If you install Adblock which I highly recommend, please make an exception in the program for your favourite sites like Fishwrecked otherwise the site sponsor adverts like xtreme coolers wont show up, and we should be supporting this free community which costs money to host

For anyone buying new laptops

Wed, 2014-10-15 10:24

For anyone buying new laptops / desktop, windows 7 is still available, although most retail outlets wont sell them off the shelf.

Dell online for example provide both windows 7 and windows 8 option for almost all their model (Generally except tablets)

Windows 8 will go down the same road as windows Vista, an operating system rushed out to market by Microsoft, with many bugs and for the most part not user friendly, it will be moved on pretty quick.
