New Leeman Ramp

Hi FWer's,

Illyarrie Street Leeman Boat Ramp Update 2nd July, 2014

Just got some Council news in the local rag.

Progress on the new Boat Ramp has been slow with the anticipated completion date now expected to be the end of August 2014. This is some three months later than originally planned.

There has been a number of delays by contractors engaged in the project including changes to the bund construction method which, alone, has added an estimated two months. The Bund is finished however there has been problems sealing the bund which will allow the site to be dewatered.  With the weather now very into a Winter pattern surge issues have been hampering divers attempts to seal the bund.  Recent storm events have impacked on the project with the barge breaking free of its moorings and ending up damaged on the rocks north of the construction site and waves coming over the bund.

There has been some progress with the on-shore piling commenced and the brickwork on the tiolet block substantially finished.

Despite my previous advice, I am as yet unable to confirm details that contractor is able to keep to the revised timetable.

Preliminary plans have commenced which will see the new facility officially opened however, the date is yet to be finalised at this stage.

Hopefully FW'ers it will be finished by Xmas and the tiolet block has been sewered, road has been closed for them to do it.

What are the other ramps like

What are the other ramps like this time of year? Are they covered with weed after the storm?

I was thinking about towing the boat up there this weekend, is it still worth it or should I try somewhere else?

Very weedy up here both ramps are full of weed and the surge big, large waves crashing over the reefs past the Green Marker.

Dirty water past Snag Island to the left of the Main Jetty, it may settle by the weekend. One thing its not cold, cold up here in the mornings with the rain/cloud cover, pretty soggy everywhere though.

Think all along the coast from Lancelin to Leeman would have weed everywhere. Indian Ocean drive been pretty busy with holiday makers heading north for the school holidays.

Sea Rescue ramp yesterday was clean and had 4 boats out.

We've had easterly to NE for the last three days.  This morning Friday, beautiful cold morning and no wind, think their will be a few boats out this morning
