New PB

Well today i had school from 8:30 till 12:30 so i opted on waiting it out for an arvo sesh. School finished way to late (Last day of school over!!!) and i bolted out, jumped in the car and headed home. Quickly rigged the rods and jumped in the boat. As per usual, started with some trolling for a little bit as I headed to the Whiting patch. Tailor were everywhere and i quickly secured 5 for tea.

I hit a nice sand flat that had an awesome drop-off and good weed patches so it was looking good for some surface action ;) 2nd cast and huge wind knot :( There goes a whole bunch of line...

After re-tying i was back into it, first few casts had some nice follows. I kicked things off with two fish of around 30. Straight back into it and a solid hit. It came in easy but once it seen the boat it went nuts, taking a good amount of string. I played him in and pulled him into the boat. He pulled the rule back to 35, it had beaten my previous PB by 1cm :p

I was on a big high and kept casting. Not thinking anything could top it, i watched as a school started pursuing my lure. A little wave pulled the lure up and i watched as a stonker 'Ting came charging and sucking my lure down. He shook his head and took off!! Big surges away from the boat and a lot of weight. I brung him in super slow so as not to pull the hooks. He took one more good run and then i seen it. I knew it was big, but not this big!! I had never seen anything like it. I very gently nurtured him in towards the boat and with a quick lift he was in!! I knew that was definitely going to be a new PB!! Beaten my PB twice, in the same day :D It was really skinny and malnourished. He went 38cm

It was such a good day, catching multiple species in the same day. You cant beat a Mixed Bag ;)

Cheers for reading,

Callum

Good work Ca11um, there's some stonker whiting in the river at the moment. Hope you got a photo of the 38 on a measure. If you did you will get on the record board.

Killing it Callum! What depth are you getting the whiting, from the pics it looks deeper than I would've expected to get them. I can't wait to give it a go

 Thanks guys :)

Beau - the deeper water holds the bigger whiting, they can still hear the clicking from the ball bearings in the lure so finding it is not a problem for them. Water to around 1m is best IMO.

Uluabuster - twin assists are the way to go mate, way better hook-ups and hardly any pulled hooks.

Fossil - nah I didn't mate, only got the 35 on measure!! Could probably still enter that in though ;)

Well done mate! Great idea with the assist hooks. Love chasin whiting on surface lures. Often I would see the whiting having a go at my lure but with no result and these assists will no doubt increase hook up rates. Good stuff!
