new rescue boat for Peaceful Bay

The Peaceful Bay Sea Rescue Group has a new $210,000 Raiad Rigid Inflatable
8.5 metre rescue boat which can reach 50 knots and carry 20 people.  FESA
Volunteer Marine Rescue Service contributed $150,000 towards the boat which is
described as one of the best and safest for use in the Southern Ocean.
More than 20 incidents were recorded last year in the area.

$60,000 for the latest electronic navigation and safety equipment including
a Forward Looking Infrared camera which can detect vessels and people in the
water at night, a GPS and radar with a 32 nautical mile range was contributed
by Lotterywest.

bigger motors than the walpole rescue boat and state of art electronics allow it to monitor between Albany and Augusta.  Lotterywest built it a new security shed too.  Pretty dangerous waters down that way, especially with unpredictable weather so it is much needed.  Over 20 incidents in 2008.

Good to see another new boat hit the water in that area.
We took a 6.5 Naiad for a drive/play up here 5 months or so back to help us decide which way to go for our planned replacement and it didn't take long for all on the comittee to get on board. They are the 4x4 of the sea.
Google lion red 14.6 naiad they were doing something like 12 knots in 6 metre seas on their delivery trip from Wellington to Auckland, hopefully this is the one we are looking to get for Carnarvon,if not then a 12.5 metre one

a lot of money spent on this

Sat, 2009-11-21 05:17

a lot of money spent on this boat , but thats nothing compared to how valuable it will be when it has saved some lives in rough conditions, looks like it has enough power to get anywhere fast and thats whats needed, seconds count when your in the water down there
